On the celebration of the 75th year’s platinum jubilee of IGS, a National Webinar as Dr. Dinesh Khare's Memorial Lecture jointly organized by IGS Jabalpur Chapter and Students’ Chapter TIET on 2nd July 2023. The guest speaker of this webinar Dr. Abhishek Sharma NIT Jalandhar presented a lecture on the topic of Bridge Construction Practices and Challenges in India. Dr. Sharma presented useful information about foundation design for safe bridge construction and the construction of strong bridges using modern techniques. Er. Sanjeev Verma, Chairman of the organization, presented the welcome address and Secretary Dr. Sanjay Verma presented a brief report of the Jabalpur Chapter’s activities. Former National President of the IGS Dr. N K Samadhiya and present National Secretary Dr. AP Singh called this event socially useful and a need of the present time. In this webinar, participants from Nigeria, Egypt, and more than 250 participants including students from IITs, NITs, and state-level engineering colleges and practicing engineers across the country were present. Prof. Vedant Srivastava, Sagar Srivastava, Rajul Dwivedi, Ghanshyam Patel, etc had special support in the program. E-Certificates were provided to the participants.
IGS Jabalpur Chapter organized a one-day Seminar “A Talk with Technocrats” on 18th April for the students of the TIET students’ Chapter. This seminar was conducted in association with IEI JLC, ICI, IOV, and PEA Jabalpur Centers. The student chapter students interacted with the Chairmen and Secretaries of these technical institutions. In this seminar, certificates were given to the participants.

National Institute of Technology Raipur’s Department of Civil Engineering and Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS), Raipur Chapter conducted two-week long hands-on training program titled “Testing of Geo-materials for Geo-technical and Transportation Engineering Applications” from 26th June 2023 to 7th July 2023. The aim of the training program is to provide hands-on training about conventional and state-of-art laboratory and field tests involved in various areas of Civil Engineering like Geotechnical Engineering and Highway Engineering.

IGS Jabalpur Chapter organized Two Days National Conference on – Advancements in Geotechnical Engineering and Infrastructural Developments (AGE – ID – 2022) on 19th and 20th November in Jabalpur. Dr. N.K.Samadhiya President, of the Indian Geotechnical Society, presided over the function. Er. S. C. Verma Chief Engineer, PWD Central Zone Jabalpur was Chief Guest, and Dr. Anil Joseph President, Indian Geotechnical Society (Elected 2023-24) was the Guest of Honor of the Function.

IGS Jabalpur Chapter, in association with Department of Civil Engineering, Takshshila Institute of Engineering, and Technology Jabalpur M.P. organized a one-day seminar on Practical Aspects of Geotechnical Engineering (PAGE – 2K18) on 10th March 2018 at the auditorium of Takshshila Group of Institution Jabalpur. The object of the seminar was to provide a platform to Students, Academicians, Research Scholars and Practicing Engineers working in the field of Geotechnical Engineering to interact and share their practical experience and knowledge. There were two sessions of the seminar - Inaugural and Technical Session.
A two days national conference was organized by IGS Jabalpur Chapter on 8 – 9 January 2011, on “Advances in Geotechnical Engineering Concrete and Masonry Construction”. This was a very successful conference; more than 25 papers were presented in this two days conference. Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BARC) Trombay, Mumbai was Patron sponsor of the conference. The chief sponsor of the event was ACC Ltd. Prof. V.K.Shrivastava Chairman, and Er. Sanjay Verma Honorary Secretary IGS Jabalpur Chapter coordinated the whole event. Er. R.K. Shrivastava the organizing chairman, Prof. Rajeev Chandak Organizing Secretary and Prof. Rajeev Khatri was the convener of the conference. A Souvenir “NIRMAN” was published under the editorial guidance of Er. Sanjiv Verma “Salil”.
IGS Jabalpur Chapter has organized two days National Seminar on Bituminous Surfaces Design construction and Failure (BSDCF – 08) on 18 – 19 October at Jabalpur. This was a very well organized seminar; more than 100 delegates attended the seminar. The chief guest of the inaugural function was Shri Ishwar Das Rohani (Speaker, M.P. Vidhan Sabha). The function was presiding over by Er. Vishwanath Dubey, Ex Mayer Jabalpur, Guest of honor was Er. Achal Kumar Saxena Retd. Secretary M.P.P.W.D. and Er. S.K.Mitna Secretary M.P.P.W.D. was the guest of honor. The organizing chairman of the seminar was Er. A.K. Mishra, Organizing Secretary Er. Manish Dubey and Er. Sanjiv Verma “Salil” was the convener of the function. About 28 papers were presented during the seminar. A Souvenir “MARG” edited by Er. Sanjiv Verma “Salil” was also published at this seminar. Ferro Cement Construction (India) Pvt. Ltd. Indore, Tanya Industries Jabalpur, Hikarini College of Engg. and Tech., Gyan Ganga and Takshshila Group of Institutions, etc. supported the seminar.
A one-day seminar on “Engineering Applications of Geotextiles” (EAG – 05) was organized on 10 September 2005. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Shri B.B.Saran, Principal Chief Engineer, W.C. Railway, Shri Ashok Shah IAS, CEO MPRRDA had presided over the function and Shri V.N. Purohit, Chief Engineer MES Jabalpur Zone was the special guest of the function.
Chief Guest of the valedictory function was Er. Sanjay Dubey (IAS), Collector Jabalpur. Er. G.D. Rao was Chairman of the seminar and Er. R K Shrivastava was as secretary of the organizing committee. IGS Jabalpur chapter was installed in a grand ceremony on 16 May 2016. The function was inaugurated by Shri Ishwar Das Rohani (Speaker, M.P. Vidhan Sabha). Dr. A. V. Shroff, National President of IGS of that time was the chairman of the function. Major General S.N. Mukharjee ADGE (Pers) E&C Branch Army HQ, New Delhi had presided over the function whereas Er.M.Bidasaria, Member National Executive Committee was the special Guest of Honour.
In the very first committee of IGS Jabalpur Chapter Prof. V.K. Shrivastava nominated as Chairman and Prof. Dinesh K. Khare as Honorary Secretary. A workshop on topic “Bearing Capacity Assessment; Myths, Conventional Methods, and Difficulties” was organized on the installation day. Er.G.D. Rao was the chairman and Er. R.K. Shrivastava was secretary of the workshop. The workshop was organized in three different sessions. For every session, the base paper was floated for discussion. Technical lecture was delivered by Dr. A.V. Shroff (Past President IGS) and Er. M. Bidasaria (Past President IGS). More than 100 delegates and technocrats from various Institutions attended the workshop.

Shivashankar, Professor, NIT Surathkal, Dr. Joshua Omer, Kingston University, London, Prof. J. Jayamohan, Professor, LBSITW, Trivandrum and Dr. Purnanand Savoikar, Professor, GEC and Prof. Deepankar Choudhury, Professor IIT Bombay - member of TC207.

The outstanding and illustrious women in the field of Geotechnical Engineering were honoured in this special symposium on “Women in Geotechnics” which was perhaps first of its kind in the country, where women who have phenomenal achievements in this field. Prof. Gali Madhavi Latha, Prof. IISC Bengaluru, Dr. R. Chitra, Joint Director, Central Soils and Materials Research Station, New Delhi, Dr. Neelima Satyam, Prof. IIT Indore and Ms. Minimol Korulla, Vice President, Maccaferri Environmental Solutions Pvt. Ltd. were felicitated at the hands of Prof. Babu and Prof Choudhury.
The 3rd Dr. Victor de Mello Goa lecture was organised by Civil Engineering Department of Goa Engineering College and IGS Goa Chapter on 20th September 2019 at New Civil Annex building, Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi. This lecture titled "Static and Seismic pile foundation design by load tests and experimental methods" was delivered by Prof. Pedro Simao Seco E Pinto, Professor, University of Coimbra, Portugal. In his lecture, Professor introduced Eurocode 7 - Geotechnical design and Eurocode 8 on design of structures for earthquake resistance. He presented two case studies related with pile design of new Tagus bridge and Leziria bridge. Prof. Pinto also presented information of ISSMGE to the audience. Prof. Purnanand Savoikar presented the life sketch of Dr. Victor de Mello.
Goa Engineering College (GEC) in collaboration with Indian Geotechnical society (IGS), Goa chapter recently organized its annual flagship event, Dr. Victor de Mello Goa lecture which was second in the series and delivered by his own son Dr. Luiz Guilherme de Mello from Sao Paolo, Brazil on 15th October. He delivered the lecture on “Some case studies with lessons to learn from Dam Engineering” which was the topic always at heart of Dr. Victor de Mello, who was Goa-born geotechnical engineer and internationally recognized authority in dams, the only Indian who delivered the prestigious Rankine lecture in UK in 1977.
