IGS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter organizes an annual Commemorative lecture in fond memory of late Prof T S RamanathaAyyer. The 5th Annual Lecture was organized on November 20th, 2021, in association with the Department of Civil Engineering of LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Thiruvananthapuram.
The Speaker was Dr Deepankar Choudhury, Prof.T.Kant Chair Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay. The lecture was inaugurated by Prof Narendra Samadhiya, President, Indian Geotechnical Society. The topic of the lecture was “Foundation Systems for Mega Structures – Recent Advances”
Second T S Ramanatha Ayyar biennial Comemmarative lecture was organised on 17th February 2018 at College of Engineering Trivandrum. (Put one inauguration photo). Prof. G.L Sivakumar Babu, President IGS, Prof. R Shivasankar, NIT Surathkal and Dr. Jayakumar, MD & CEO Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd., were delivered the comemmarative lectures. In the same meeting, IGS Student Chapters were also inaugurated in five engineering colleges in and around Trivandrum
The IGS Student Chapters in CET, Marian Engineering College, Kazhakoottam, Rajadhani Institute of Engineering and Technology, Attingal, St. Thomas Institute of Science and Technology, Kazhakoottam, LBS Institute of Technology for Women were individually inaugurated in March 2018 by Prof. G. Venkatappa Rao, Guest Professor, IIT Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat. Dr. M. Venkataraman, President, Indian Chapter of International Geosynthetics Society delivered a technical lecture in all the five colleges. Marian Engineering College, Kazhakoottam organised a National Conference on “Innovative Trends in Civil Engineering” with the support of IGS Trivandrum Chapter. IGS Student Chapter of CET conducted a quiz competition for the students of all the five engineering colleges. Student Chapter of LBSITW and CET organised technical visits to various construction sites to familiarise the students with practical applications of Geotechnical Engineering.
A national conference on the theme “Geotechnical Engineering and Modelling GEM-2016” was organised in association with the Civil Engineering Department of LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Thiruvananthapuram on 17-06-2016 and 18-06-2016

Students of Civil Department visited the JIET Hospital, near the JIET campus. During the workshop, students learned about the basics of Drone Survey. There students were guided by the Drone Experts, Mr. Rampal Choudhary and Mr. Harkaran Deru. The students gained basic knowledge of the operation of a Surveying Drone and the software and instruments used for the same. They were demonstrated a demo Drone flight to survey the area within the boundaries of JIET Hospital. This visit was a part of educational events for Student’s Local Chapter of The Indian Geotechnical Society and was supervised by Prof. Kiran Bhoot (H.O.D.-Mentor, Civil Engg. Department).

The Department of Civil Engineering organized a webinar on “River Training and Flood Protection Work” in collaboration with Mr. Manish Barot, Head-Tech Sales & Business Development.
In this webinar, students gained practical skills in River training & flood protection work. The students were upgraded by learning about river training, how to protect themselves against flood, before & after flood protection
Experiences show that the completion of the foundation construction is the key to the timely completion of a project. The 12th Annual Conference of DFI of India will occur from 05-07 October 2023. The conference proceedings will guide participants to implement good practices in their projects, resulting in time and cost savings in project execution.
Technical sessions focusing on field experiences will be conducted during the conference on 05, 06 and 07 October 2023. The conference’s first session will have the inauguration event, followed by one keynote presentation. The second session will be dedicated to a unique topic. Aside from corporate presentations, the third and fourth sessions will feature keynote presentations, contributory paper presentations, and panel discussions. There will be parallel sessions accommodating papers on a wide range of topics. The GroundWork and WiDF sessions will highlight the second and third days.
More than 25 exhibition booths by various stakeholders in the foundation construction industry will enrich the conference experience.
