Geo Champions 2023 is a national-level student contest that tests the knowledge, practical exposure, and critical thinking of teams of postgraduate students in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. The Geo Champions competition includes three rounds which consist of Geo Design, Geo Prediction, and Geo Quiz. The event is organized by the Indian Geotechnical Society Trichy Chapter in association with the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and the National Institute of Technology Puducherry to celebrate the occasion of 75th year Diamond Jubilee of the Indian Geotechnical Society. The winners of Geo Champions will be awarded a cash price of Rs. 75,000 /- in IGC 2023 at IIT Roorkee.
Based on the topic "Sustainable Geotechniques", Prof. Dipanjan Basu, Professor, University of Waterloo, Canada delievered a presentation entitled "Sustainability and its Assessment in Geotechnical Engineering"
The IGS Student Chapter at Department of Civil Engineering, The National Institute of Engineering, Mysore inaugurated on 5th August 2023. IGS Student Chapter serves as a platform for students, professionals, and researchers, to exchange knowledge, collaborate on research projects, and stay updated with the latest advancements in the field of geotechnical engineering. Student chapter aims to complement the existing curriculum by offering practical experiences, industry connections, and opportunities for professional development.
Karnataka Geotechnical Fusion (KGF) 2023 is a conference beingly jointly organized by IGS Bangalore chapter, IGS Surathkal chapter, IGS Hubli chapter and IGS Mysuru chapter as a fitting tribute to the contributions of Karnataka in shaping up the IGS to its current stature and to fuse the IGS chapters of Karnataka into synergetic collaborations towards solving important geotechnical problems of the state.
Global Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction 15-20 March 2021,
The Virtual Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction - Civil Engineering for a Disaster Resilient Society (VCDRR 2021) was organized by National Institute of Technology Karnataka, National Institute of Disaster Management, Asian Disaster Reduction and Response Network, Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction, and International Water Management Institute, in association with Indian Geotechnical Society and IGS Surathkal chapter. The conference was supported by 15 global partnering organizations including ISSMGE, ASCE, IAHR, IACRR, AIWC, ISET, IGS, ECI, Springer etc. The conference was advertised on 13 October 2020, International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and ended on 20 March 2021, International Day of Happiness. There was an overwhelming response from across the globe with 612 paper submissions out of which 310 papers were accepted after peer review. The conference had around 1800 delegates registered from over 75 countries.

Two-day National Workshop on“Geosyntheticsfor Infrastructure Sustainability and Resilience (GEOINSURE 2023) was designed and conducted by the Dept. of Civil Engineering.Sasi Institute of Technology and Engineering,Tadepalligudem in association with IGS Guntur chapter on 4th August and 5th August 2023 to impart field knowledge to the young students, faculty and engineers, on applications of geosynthetics, fostering the development of sustainable and resilient infrastructure.The workshop has covered various topics on Geosynthetics and their applications in various fields such as the construction of airport and runway embankments, eco-friendly and sustainable solutions using geosynthetics in River Bank Protection, Drainage and Reinforced Soil Walls & Slopes, Use of geosynthetics with natural fibres.Overall,six expert lectures were arranged.

A Guest Lecture on “Application of geosynthetics and Natural fibres in reinforced soil walls and slopes” by Mr. P. Thrimurti Raju, Managing Partner, Sreecoir Industries, Tadepalligudem delivered from 10:00 A M to 11: 00 A M. The speaker was explained the installation scheme, sequence of filling and cell assembly of Geocell Mattresses, Reinforced soil Slopes using Geocomposite, and Erosion control by coir.
After finishing the Guest lecture Students were attended Field visit to Sreecoir Industries, Tadepalligudem. There student members were observed various types of coir fibres and Mr. P. Thrimurti Raju explained the manufacturing process and uses of coir fibres in erosion control of soil
School of Infrastructure (SIF) of Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar organised a Two-day Workshop on Geosynthetics for Sustainable Civil Infrastructure. The event “Workshop on Geosynthetics for Sustainable Civil Infrastructure” was held at IIT Bhubaneswar during June 16-17, 2023 in association with Indian Geotechnical Society, Bhubaneswar Chapter and C. V. Raman Global University, Bhubaneswar. Shri. Ashutosh Dash, Engineer-in-Chief, Interstate Issues and Legal Matters, Govt. of Odisha was the chief guest of the inaugural function.
National Seminar on Modern Geotechnical Practices along with the 6th Prof. T.S. RamanathaAyyar Lecture was organized by the IGS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter in association with the Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET) on 3rd February 2023 in the College of Engineering Trivandrum.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Anil Joseph, President, Indian Geotechnical Society. The function was presided over by Dr. Suresh Babu V., the Principal, CET. In the function, the newly instituted best student chapter award was presented to the IGS Student Chapter, Government Engineering College Bartonhill, Trivandrum. The awardee was selected after inviting applications in a standard format and scrutinizing by a three member committee.
The 6th Prof. T.S. RamanathaAyyar Lecture was delivered by Prof. M.R. Madhav. The seminar comprised of technical sessions by Dr. Anil Joseph, Mrs. MinimolKorulla and Dr. Balan K. The programme was well attended by practicing engineers from Kerala PWD, Irrigation Department, Local Self Government Department, Kerala State Electricity Board, Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL), several private design and construction entities, researchers, teachers and students from various engineering colleges. The programme also attracted sponsorships from major stakeholders in the Geotechnical domain.
