IGS Srinagar Chapter

Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) is a Scientific and a professional body providing common plate form  for Interaction amongst academicians, researchers, designers, construction engineers, Civil engineering students, equipment manufacturers spread all over the country.  The Srinagar Chapter of IGS, the 20TH in the Country was formally inaugurated at Srinagar, J&K by Prof. Nitin Som, President IGS on June 24, 2000 under the dynamic leadership of Brig. S. N. Mukherjee, the first Chairman of the local Chapter. The main aim of IGS Srinagar Chapter is to promote closer interaction amongst Geotechnical fraternity in the Himalayan Region in particular and all over the country in general.  The IGS Srinagar was shifted to NIT in 2006 under the Chairmanship of Prof. (Dr.) Barkat Hussain. The IGS Srinagar Chapter aims to meet the long standing need of providing the forum to the Engineering fraternity to combat the innumerable problems of natural hazards after carrying out detailed scientific studies and evaluation and creating an environment for achieving the Global benchmark in Geotechnical Engineering. IGS Srinagar Chapter keeps itself abreast of latest technologies by arranging various workshops, short-term courses and Seminars to spread the awareness of Geotechnical Engineering in the Civil Construction works throughout the State. IGS Srinagar Chapter also aims to promote cooperation amongst practicing Engineers and researchers for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in all areas related to Geotechnical Engineering in all allied fields with their practical applications towards eco-friendly environment sustainability.
